The most versatile of all ankle-foot orthoses, the Metal AFO has been around for decades. Constructed of several individual components, its design allows for the device to be altered as the patient's needs change. It is ideal for the edemic patient where constant limb fluctuation adds to fitting difficulties. The metal superstructure, always attached to a supportive shoe (supplied by the patient) can be constructed in a myriad of ways to control the flexibility required at the ankle. A wide variety of shoe modifications can be accommodated at the same time.
